The International Student Center in Berlin (ISB) is a dormitory and meeting place for advanced scholarship students of the former four Allies.

The tenants of the house enjoy a diverse program. There are excursions to historically or culturally important places.

The ISB invites authors, politicians, and scientists to give lectures about their work and to hold discussions with house members. The students may also give presentations of their own research.

In addition, the tutors organize cinema evenings, visits to Berlin’s theaters and art exhibitions, and, of course, parties.

Many students in the ISB have enjoyed their stay so much, that they ask for an extension of their scholarship in Berlin. Upon returning to their home countries, many have remarked that the ISB was a crucial part of their exchange experience.

History of the ISB

The ISB is relatively new, but the building has a distinguished past as the "Edinburgh House," a hotel for British officers. After the reunification of Germany and departure of the four Allies the creation of a center for advanced studies for students from France, Great Britain, the United States and the Republics of the former Soviet Union was suggested. The ISB commemorates the liberation of Germany by the Allies and it is a legacy of their stay in Berlin. Although the Edinburgh House was in good condition, the Studentenwerk put a lot of effort into its renovation.
